Benefits of Facial Massage

Indian Face Massage (Facial rejuvenation) is a natural facelift through massage. It is designed to be a gentle non-invasive approach to looking younger. It works primarily by freeing constrictions both within the facial muscles and in the connective tissue.

Tension can build up within our facial muscles from the pressures of everyday life without us realising it. It can be easy for certain thoughts and emotions to become habitual, locking themselves into expressions on our faces - sometimes over a duration of a whole lifetime. Under such conditions muscles can actually “dry up” and contract, inhibiting freedom of expression. This can encourage ageing and the formation of wrinkles as the face loses its muscle tone and elasticity and begins to sag.

Oil is required to provide a fine, slippery surface for the massage. Now a days facial massage creams are also available. For oil, you can use the following:

Dry or ageing skin: Use apricot, avocado, macadamia or wheat germ oil.

Normal skin: Use almond, sunflower or sesame oil. Olive oil is another option but is one to the thicker vegetable oils, so can be mixed with thinner oil for massage.

Oily skin: Use hazelnut, peach kernel, thistle or hypericum oil – the latter needs to be blended with one of the other carrier oils.

Borage and evening primrose are two oils with special anti-aging properties. They are expensive so are normally blended with one of the above carrier oils, in a proportion of roughly one part to every seven of the main oil. They benefit all skin types.

Step 1 - It is a 4 minute massage routine. Follow it after removing the make-up, applying the moisturizing cream. Pour the oil into one hand, rub it into both hands and apply the oil to neck and face in the long, upward and outward sweeping movements. Apply it sparingly around the eyes, where the skin is most delicate, use the ring finger of both hands.

Step 2 – Use alternate hands, slide up the neck form the base to the jaw bone, turning the hands as necessary and working lightly over the windpipe. Cover the whole neck.

Step 3 – Use the first and middle fingers of each hand, slide firmly along the jaw line from chin to the front of ears. The index finger should be on the top of jaw and middle finger underneath.

Step 4 – With the fingers together and hands pointing up to eyebrow, hold the fingers, press firmly with sides of hands either side of nose. Hold for 3 to 4 seconds. Repeat.

Step 5 – Release the pressure slightly and roll the hands on cheeks, slide the hands outwards with index fingers stopping in front of ears and apply a firm pressure.

Step 6 – Use ring finger of each hand, start at inner corners of eyebrows, slide firmly outwards over the eyebrows and use ring finger only, trace very lightly inwards underneath eyes.
